Government funding for ADHD coaching

Hardly anyone knows it exists. It covers up to $1,770 a year, which can be 8 coaching sessions, fully funded. The form itself only takes about 15 minutes. Government paperwork with an ADHD brain is its own particular hell, so I’ve broken every screen down for you. Self-employed counts. Your employer doesn’t need to know.

Is this you?

You’re likely to be eligible if all three of these are true.

  • You have an ADHD diagnosis. It doesn’t matter how long ago, and there’s no expiry date on one.
  • You work at least 8 hours a week, in a job that’s expected to keep going for 13 weeks or more.
  • You’re employed or self-employed. Working for yourself absolutely counts, and plenty of people assume it doesn’t.

Not sure about one of these? The guide walks through the grey areas, and you can always ring JobAccess for free to check.

You don’t need any documents to start. The application is just questions, and your diagnosis letter gets sent in afterwards. So there’s nothing to dig out of a drawer before you begin.

What’s in the guide

The whole application, start to finish, in the order you’ll actually do it.

  • 01Whether you’re actually eligibleIncluding the two things that trip most people up, and why an old diagnosis still counts.
  • 02What the fund covers, and the yearly capReal figures, checked against jobaccess.gov.au, so you can do the maths yourself.
  • 03The application, screen by screenA screenshot of every page, so nothing is a surprise when you sit down to do it.
  • 04What happens after you applyThe phone call, the timeline, and the extra documents they sometimes ask for.
  • 05The one rule that catches people outGet this wrong and the money is gone. It takes ten seconds to read and it could save you $1,770.
  • 06The questions I get asked mostOld diagnosis, employer finding out, being self-employed, and doing government forms with an ADHD brain.

I put together this guide because I kept meeting people who have no idea this funding exists. Most people haven’t heard of it, and plenty of GPs haven’t either. It’s real, and workers with ADHD are entitled to use it.
